Évolution du réseau de stations-service de 1997-2020 dans la ville de Lubumbashi, République Démocratique du Congo

Dans la ville de Lubumbashi, le réseau de stations-service galope chaque année : de 44 en 1997 à 63 en 2015, puis 90 en 2019 et 137 selon notre enquête menée en 2020. Or, les substances toxiques présentes dans l’essence à laquelle sont exposés les travailleurs et les habitants d’alentours comprennent le benzène et tous ses dérivés. Dans une étude géospatiale, nous avons recouru au logiciel QGIS 2.18 pour cartographier les stations-service implantées dans la Ville avant 2021 et déterminé l’exposition normative aux hydrocarbures des populations alentours. Ceci nous a permis d’évaluer les risques environnementaux liés à la proximité des stations-service dans un contexte urbain en pleine expansion. Nous avons, en termes de résultats recensé 137 stations-service, soit une augmentation de plus 68% entre 1997 et 2020. La distance la plus courte mesurée entre deux stations les plus proches était de 64,3m. Ceci était encore moins à d’autres endroits où seule la route séparait deux stations-service. La plupart des stations-service étaient fréquemment accolées à des résidences ou situées au pied d’immeubles occupés par des tiers. Face à cette situation, une planification stricte et l’application rigoureuse des normes existantes sont nécessaires pour prévenir l’installation anarchique et protéger la population contre les risques liés à ces infrastructures mal positionnées
